Road trip to Atlanta!
Today is our big travel day down to Atlanta. We are thankful for a healthy team and great travel weather. This day is always best when it is relatively uneventful. The first few hours were quiet, but then everyone started waking up and talking as we made our way into Kentucky. We stopped for lunch at a Steak 'n Shake in Bowling Green. We weren't expecting the amount of damage we saw as we drove down some of the side streets as we made our way to lunch. It was clear a tornado came through. Most houses were relatively in tact, but the tops of most trees were gone and several had been ripped out of the ground. We talked about not needing to go any further to serve. It is one thing to see the damage on the news, and quite another to drive through it.
Lunch was good and relatively quick. We hopped back in our vehicles and made our way down through Nashville, then Chattanooga and finally into Georgia. We arrived in Atlanta around 6:30, picked up a few things and then headed over to 7 Bridges. It's exciting to have a new group here. Many of the students have had siblings serve here before, but this will be a new experience for all of us.
After a short orientation and opening Bible study we had a little downtime as we waited to bring in the new year. After that it was brushing teeth and hopping in our sleeping bags. As I finish this, most people have faded off to sleep (with the sound of occasional fireworks in the background). We are thankful for answered prayers - a healthy crew and a safe trip.
